At the time of filming, mining continues mainly as a means of preserving employment and residents’ social insurance, while village depopulation and the departure of younger generations cast doubt on the community’s future. The film records the residents’ deep relationship with emery, highlighting issues of labour, collective memory and survival in the face of social and economic change.
